A Glimpse Into Skillz Company Culture – May the Fourth Be With You This Cinco de Mayo
It isn’t unusual for Skillzians to stick around after work for a round of ping pong or “FIFA” – and last Friday, our entire San Francisco headquarters came together for our second annual Cinco de Mayo celebration…although this year we switched it up a bit. Since May the Fourth (Star Wars Day) fell on a Friday and Cinco de Mayo on a Saturday, we decided to kick off our weekend with a hybrid happy hour celebrating both occasions!
Some may confuse Cinco de Mayo for Mexican Independence Day (which is actually September 16). However, May 5 is commemorated because of the Mexican army’s underdog victory over France at the Battle of Puebla. Now, we observe the holiday in the U.S. as a larger celebration of Mexican-American culture.
In honor of these festive holidays, we strung up some beautiful decorations and a piñata and served up margaritas and snacks. Of course, there was a Star Wars cake as well! We celebrated together by swinging away at the piñata and just hanging out together alongside good music and fun games.
